hello familiar blog

it's been awhile since i've stopped over this way. how i have missed you. i'm on my second sick day of the week. well second and a half. i picked something up pretty disastrous this weekend. i thought it was food poisoning, but then i got a fever. i read on someone's blog that there's always a last meal before you get sick and that food poisoning is basically a myth. so, i'm at home. i love being married. i didn't realize how great it would be to just be able to come home to someone who will disconnect me from work, the gym or the stress of the roads. who knew.

i definitely became familiar with the newlywed nine. miami was fun. the food was great. the beach was beautiful. and i've paid for every single meal and dessert out when i've hit the gym. i had to lead a class a few days after returning. i thought i was going to die. i didn't. but every single day i have the choice to feed my body with good food...but also to feed my body with things that are more everlasting than the physical food. it's amazing how attached the spiritual and the physical are in a journey to full health. i make the connection sometimes, but lately it's become more apparent. i'm hopeful as i begin to consider whole health in marriage and family.

feeding on the body of Christ

each sunday the congregation at st. martins and parishes around the world share in the Eucharist. we say the same phrases as last week...and the week before...and the year before. yet each time we say those words, they come alive and become new to me. this past sunday we shared in fr. ron's last eucharist before his retirement. it was meaningful to share in a beautiful meal together.

as i continue this journey of whole health and living, i can't forget the direct connection to our spirituality and walk with Christ. we feed on the spiritual body and blood of Christ and that satisfies us to deep levels.

just some thoughts.

food for the soul

i went to a writing workshop this morning. liz' grandmother facilitated a lovely writing group with some friends. i didn't realize how much my soul needed to write and to connect with friends in this intimate way. it was such food for my soul. i hope to remember how to write more and more. writing has been more of a forgotten memory to me. when i write sometimes it feels like i'm trying to remember how to speak spanish. it's painful and familiar and sometimes too hard to work through. so i hope to fight for my love for writing.

so i'm sitting and eating some old chinese food. kenley wrote me a sweet anniversary card. three weeks and it's been the time of our lives. he's one of my favorite people of all time :)

love to you today.

nom nom nom

i <3 being on our honeymoon. this will be a short post as we're on our honeymoon. we've eaten really good food and i've enjoyed the good food here in miami. and haven't felt guilty one bit. i do know that monday evening when i go to body attack, i will be hurting...and every day after. but it will hurt so good. my body has appreciated the break from the high impact jumping around and gasping for air. i've swapped it for time on treadmills and new cardio machines i tried for the first time...swimming in the pool and ocean and walking around gardens and museums.

every body needs a vacation. do it without guilt or judgment.

fear and anger

our fear, when healed becomes intuitive, empathetic compassion and sensitivity toward others. our destructive anger, when healed, becomes a passion, a hunger and thirst for justice and righteousness. our perfectionism ... when healed, becomes released, joyous power to build and create.

journeying

this morning i enjoyed the full gym two doors down from our condo. one of my goals this vacation is to enjoy every moment that i'm awake. so i got up a little earlier than i would want to, but it was so worth it. i convinced k to join me on our private patio. we breakfasted and looked over at the pool and lake. i suddenly remembered one of my other goals on our vacation. DOCUMENT our wedding. i went back into my journal and wrote down everything i could remember, everything i loved and all of my favorite memories. and it dawned on me, this is why i love journaling and this is why my mom loves to scrapbook. one of my goals in the next year is to document our lives in photos and words. i love it.

i'm back. sorta.

i got married six days ago. i haven't had a real good moment to stop and think about what has occurred in my life. i had to attend a board meeting in my boss's place while she's on sabbatical so i came back to work on wednesday. yes, wednesday after getting married. i am counting down the days until i finally have a vacation. we're heading to miami on sunday. and all i want to do is sleep. i moved from my apt. sept 19 and haven't had my own place since then. i've been pretty nomadic and have lived in some homes of some gracious friends. i'm exhausted though. i would have never imagined my first week of marriage to be full of work and stress. i also didn't thikn i could ever eat so much leftover wedding cake. i think i'm full of wedding cake for the next year though. definitely done eating wedding cake :).

the cleanse was really great. i think that i will adopt some similar things when i get back from miami. i've been a vegetarian for 14 years...during all of those years i went on vacations with the family. we went to the east coast often and i'd always order something lame. baked potato. and then my family would enjoy some amazing seafood. so next week i'll enjoy some seafood to celebrate. i'll enjoy working out in a different area. i'll practice body attack and turbo kick (which i now regularly teach at the Y on wednesdays and saturdays).

when i return i think that i will officially cut out cheese and alcohol. i will seriously limit the amount of sugar and caffeine i have as well. i didn't realize how messed up i felt when i ate those things until i added them all back at the same time. whoops. i really understand why people are vegans on a conservation level, but also from a health level, too. so, i'll be back to blogging after the honeymoon.
